“Water Girl”

This was an exploration in creating a narrative around a woman and her beast. Originally, this was going to be styled as a comic strip, with multiple panels on each canvas, however, the narrative felt more effective with each canvas panel focusing on particular moments. With the size of the canvas, it seemed more appropriate to give each moment its own space.

The fun, interactive part of this series? The narrative changes as you rearrange the paintings.

Fun Fact: I have a love/fear relationship with water. As much as I love watching the horizon at the edge of the water, whenever I see how dark the water gets in the middle of the ocean, I can’t help but allow my imagination to go wild thinking about what lives under there. Stories of the Kraken, the Leviathan, even of Cthulu terrify me, but fascinate me at the same time. This series of “Water Girl” was one of my alternatives of what lurks in the water.
